Rising Star takes to the stage in Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia
This new production by Melbourne Opera is directed by Gary Abrahams with 4 performances only!Our own Hall of Fame Rising Star recipient Christopher Busietta (OB1998), and current Junior School parent, is performing in Melbourne Opera’s Production of Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia in the role of Liverotto.
Christopher has been performing Opera professionally since 2005 and from 2009-2020 was singing full-time in Opera houses in Germany.
The production premiers this Sunday 28 August and runs until Tuesday 6 September at the Athenaeum Theatre on Collins Street.

Donizetti’s dramatic Bel Canto masterpiece, a virtuoso vehicle returned to popularity by Dame Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge, has not been seen in Melbourne for more than 30 years. Direct from international successes in the US and UK, acclaimed international coloratura soprano Helena Dix returns to Melbourne Opera to continue her string of MO successes (Macbeth, Norma, Roberto Devereux and Lohengrin).
Joining Helena is popular tenor James Egglestone as her secret son Gennaro, Christopher Hillier (OB1997) as Duke Alfonso the jealous husband and Dimity Shepherd as Orsini, with the Melbourne Opera Chorus and Orchestra conducted by Greg Hocking and Raymond Lawrence. This new production is directed by Gary Abrahams. 4 performances only!
