Re-establishing routines in Term 3
From the Crowther CentreThe report and progress information from last semester can feel like a long time ago in the eyes and minds of our children, so having a short chat with your son about goals (and the behavioural dimensions that support them) is vital.
Set aside time to plan the week ahead and re-establish routines that support effective learning; these routines may need to be reminded and sometimes re-negotiated.
It can be a good idea to think about this as a process over a couple of weeks and being a 10-week term it is well worth the investment. So:
- A conversation about the main learnings from last semester
- ‘So what, now what’ – what are the broad goals (results and behaviour – not just academic) for the semester?
- What are the steps your son will take, and by when?
- What are the routines that we need to do this (what are the non-negotiables)?
- What might some of the rewards be (let’s make this fun)?
