Nepal Adventure

A cultural experience

During the Term 3 holidays, I had the opportunity to go on the World Class Adventure program to Nepal offered by BGS with World Expeditions.

I was intrigued by the trip as I thought it was a bit exotic and I had always been interested in Nepal, the Himalayas and seeing some of the biggest mountains in the world.

We began exploring the city of Kathmandu and visiting important Nepalese cultural landmarks such as Pashupatinath Temples and the Boudhanath Stupa.

These first few days were a very big culture shock and opened my eyes to how other cultures live and their beliefs. This was one of the most important aspects of the trip as it showed how privileged we are in Australia and really contrasted two very different cultures.

We then flew to Pokhara where we started our trek on the Annapurna circuit. The nature was amazing with the majority of the hiking through rainforest/jungle with parts opening up in villages with mountain views.

Although it rained for the last 24 hours of the hike, we still managed to see many mountains in the Annapurna range such as Annapurna South, Annapurna 2 and Machapuchre – The Fishtail Mountain.

After our final day of trekking, we returned to Kathmandu for a day of exploration/souvenir shopping in the Thamel district before our flight home.

I took a lot away from the experience. The trip was insanely eye-opening culturally and the beauty of the country surprised me in the best way.  It was an experience that was worth taking.
