Walter Annandale Jack attended Brighton Grammar School from 1885 to 1892 alongside his four brothers.

After finishing School, Walter pursued a career in his family’s wholesale paper business, Andrew Jack Dyson & Co. In 1956 he was appointed Chairman of Directors. He also served as Chairman of Directors of Brighton Gas Company which previously occupied the Junior School site.

In 1913 Walter was elected as the fourth President of the Old Brighton Grammarians’ Society. He was a member of the Brighton Grammar School Council from 1925 and Chairman from 1948 through to 1965.

Crucially, Walter was a key benefactor in the School’s 1924 incorporation, which secured the ongoing viability of BGS. Without the generosity of benefactors like Walter Jack, BGS would have closed its doors.

A man to which our School owes so much.
