BGS’s Summer of Sport

Personal growth, teamwork and resilience

This summer season saw more than 1,000 Brighton Grammar School students take to the fields, courts and waters, proudly representing our school across a wide range of APS sports. While we continue to celebrate our reputation as a successful APS school, we understand that true success in sport goes far beyond the scoreboard.

As staff, coaches and parents we see the personal growth, teamwork, and resilience displayed by our students as being equally as important. Sport remains a vital platform for our boys to safely explore and develop key elements of our Positive Masculinity framework.

Through stronger connections, authenticity, and intrinsic motivation, our boys are learning to be the best versions of themselves – regardless of the team they play for or the outcomes of their matches. The lessons learned through sport will carry through to all aspects of their lives – shaping their character, leadership, and sense of camaraderie.

That said, we also have some outstanding achievements to acknowledge from the Summer Season. Our Firsts Tennis team demonstrated incredible talent and grit, finishing 2nd in the APS competition -losing just one match all season. Our Diving team placed 2nd and our swimmers placed 5th at the recent APS Finals. Our Sailing team made history at the recent Victorian Championships in St Kilda, securing both 1st and 2nd place – an unprecedented result for BGS. At the prestigious Australian Rowing Championships, our First VIII and Year 10A crews made us proud by returning with national medals.

The inaugural season of Squash at Brighton Grammar created history with 27 players and a focus on building confidence, our Badminton team improved on their already strong foundation and the Cricket, Touch Football and Futsal students continued to grow with some tough matches and a resilience that will serve them well in seasons to come.

We congratulate the following students who are representing the APS this week in competition against AGSV teams:

  • Tennis – Lachlan King, Markis Kallos, Harry Toomey
  • Touch Football – Finley Ward, Hamish Ward
  • Cricket – Tom Jones, Tom Paddington

As we close out a brilliant summer of sport, our attention now turns to the winter season with great anticipation. With the same commitment, sportsmanship and drive, we look forward to another term of growth, development, and some more great results.

Congratulations to all students in Years 7 to 12 for your outstanding involvement, commitment, and contribution throughout the summer season across all sports.

Go Tonners!
